Notes on the NBA's Frenetic Off-Season

Following a nice hiatus after the NBA Draft, it is time to check in on the NBA this off-season. So let’s take a look back at every single one of the league’s notable July transactions…

July 3
– Dallas signs Gerald Green
The first round of the 2005 NBA Draft featured a couple of superstars (Chris Paul, Deron Williams), a few impactful players (Andrew Bynum, Danny Granger, David Lee, Andrew Bogut), some other solid players (Raymond Felton, Jarrett Jack, Charlie Villanueva), and two high school busts. One of them was Martell Webster, who is still with the Blazers (who initially drafted him) and the other, Gerald Green, is now with his fourth team.

It will be interesting to see if Green can get his career started with the Mavericks. He is an exceptional athlete and has some range on his jumper. If he can somehow develop a mid-range game, he could play a role with Dallas.

His Stuck in the Middle with You blog is sharp, thought-provoking, humorous, and fiercely insightful. Elliot and NaismithLives.com senior writer Adam Stanco exchanged e-mails regarding basketball and politics. Before long they were discussing how the price of gas could determine college rivalries, how the Medicare controversy is similar to the NBA’s age minimum rule, and Elliot’s unrelenting desire for Asian women.

The following is what transpired…
